With the ongoing advancement of smart water management systems and China's national water conservation initiatives, electromagnetic flow meters – the industry's flagship measurement instruments – are entering a new phase of growth. As an electromagnetic flowmeter manufacturer, Yigeqi leads us to explore how to select according to complex working conditions, which has become the focus of the industry.
Based on Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction, electromagnetic flowmeters have gained widespread adoption in water industry applications due to their unique advantages including zero pressure loss, corrosion resistance, and high measurement accuracy. This technology has now been successfully implemented across various sectors such as wastewater treatment, leak detection systems, pipeline distribution measurement, water plant process control, and raw water intake management.
The selection of electromagnetic flowmeters requires careful consideration of four core factors: First is fluid conductivity. "This is the primary requirement, ensuring the fluid conductivity is no less than 5μS/cm. Non-conductive media such as pure water or oils are not suitable." Second is lining and electrode materials. To address chlorine corrosion in tap water and wear conditions in wastewater treatment, appropriate material combinations should be selected based on medium characteristics. For example, PTFE lining paired with titanium electrodes is suitable for highly corrosive environments, while hard rubber lining combined with 316L electrodes offers greater cost-effectiveness. Third is installation environment requirements. "Full pipe measurement must be ensured: horizontal installation requires electrodes aligned horizontally, vertical installation requires upward-flowing fluid. Additionally, sufficient straight pipe sections before and after must be maintained." Fourth is intelligent functionality. Modern electromagnetic flowmeters should incorporate data storage, self-diagnosis, digital communication, and other smart features to provide data support for smart water management platforms.
Experts predict that with the advancement of smart city and new urbanization construction, electromagnetic flowmeter manufacturers will develop technology towards more intelligent, higher precision and stronger adaptability, providing key technical support for energy conservation, emission reduction and efficient water management.
